Slone Square (Status Square)

Unimpressed by my surroundings. New exploration of the area, made me see beyond the surface of what was in front of me. Must look like ‘locals’, as we are asked for directions. Quiet impressed, three years travelling around and living in London must have been obvious to the tourists. Worried about getting hit by a car or van, passing traffic circling the square we were standing at very fast speed. Surrounded by builders and fruit and newspaper sellers.

Liverpool Street

Familiar surroundings put at ease as I can get my bearings. People running around as its lunchtime, they remind me of caged animals due to their manic nature. Smells awful, like rotting food and waste left out in the sun. Bored by the area keen to walk on to my next destination. It’s getting hot and I’m easily irritated by the people around me, they tread over anyone who gets in their way. I feel very small here, status seems very important here, feeling very out of place.

Euston Square

Time of travel, mad panic to catch my train on time and get a seat for the journey back home. New visit makes me see the area with a new perspective. I feel calm and a stress-free. I admire the architecture and the glowing neon picture hanging in the windows of the buildings facing me. Many tall buildings all seem to have great importance. Different people surround me; area is swarming with tourists and commuters.

Barbican (Tunnel/Cement City/Cement through-way)

Garish cement structures impose on this area. As we travel through the tunnel we can hear a faint engine hum. In addition the area is humid and musty and there is a distinct smell of chlorine. The area is uninspiring, and seems to be used as a through way for the business men and women of the surrounding areas. There is a scattering of cafés and a gym between commercial buildings and car parks.

Tower Hill (Charity Bank)

Immediately pestered by charity workers, ironically facing some of the greatest riches of the world the Crown Jewels. Sun is beaming and workers and tourist lay out on the green around the station.

Edgware Road (The Cage)

Felt a great sense of confusion, unsure who to get out of the station, all possible routes are blocked by grater and stutters. There seems to be selective opening hours for these routes. We are not the only ones confused many tourists seem to be standing around, and one man asks another fro directions, they both seem to believe there is no way back and head back onto the tube. We feel like caged animals, we soon feel elated to find and exit route- a sudden surge of freedom!
